After a two year delay resulting from the pandemic The Carr Center Performance Studio will open to the public the week of October 12th. One of the featured performing artists for this auspicious series of events will be the iconic pianist, composer, arranger Patrice Rushen and The Carr Center’s own Gathering Orchestra Nonet, under the musical direction of our Resident Jazz Artist, Rodney Whitaker.
They will perform the World Premiere of the recently completed “Resonate Suite, ” composed for the Nonet by Ms. Rushen as part of a collaboration between Detroit Chamber Winds & Strings (DCWS) and The Carr Center, that explores the African Diaspora through the lens of contemporary American chamber music.
The classically trained artist is among seven American composers commissioned to create new works to be performed by each of the collaborators during the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons. Collaborators include Detroit Chamber Winds & Strings, The Carr Center, Oberlin Conservatory, Bowling Green State University, The University of Michigan/Ann Arbor, Michigan State University, and Western Michigan University.
Stay tuned for more details as the summer roll-out continues.
