will present “Beats, Rhythm, and Tap Shoes” during a 4 day residency with co-creators Maurice Chestnut (tap dancer/choreographer/educator), Wendel Patrick (musician/producer/educator), and Jerome Jennings (musical director/percussionist/educator). This power team came together to celebrate the genius work of J Dilla and A Tribe Called Quest. They will lead workshops, discussions, and cyphers followed by a very special performance featuring special guest such as Geri Allen, Jessica Care Moore, Natasha Thomas Jackson, the Tapology Youth Tap Ensemble, and more.
Beat Makers, Groovers, and Shakers: This class will be open to all musicians and dancers. Brinae Ali, Wendel Patrick, Maurice Chestnut Jerome Jennings will explore the concept of building a groove and improvisation. Using sounds from our instruments, voices, body, hands, feet, and beat machines to create a groove. Through live looping, beat conducting, and tap dancing, a cypher will evolve and be encouraged through out the workshop.
