This month long contemporary art exhibition, taking place from January 28th to March 3rd is a collaborative effort between The Carr Center and Stay Laced to bring a fresh perspective on the current topics of racial tension in America. Black Identity: Redefining the Black Body will feature the work of over a dozen local Detroit artists all centered on the stereotypically viewed black body, focusing on visual language, and the current negatively impressed image of blacks in American culture. This exhibition will showcase how this current misunderstanding can be shifted to truthfully relay a new message of the black body.
The opening night of Black Identity: Redefining the Black Body will be Saturday, January 28th from 6pm-11pm at The Carr Center. The night will be a semi-formal event catered by Fortune Catering LLC. with live performances featuring Charity Ward, Pacman, Detroit Poets Society, Jay Adams, Nelle Nicole, and Arum NaFaal.
