Ongoing Exhibition: Earth, Wind & Sanctuary

  • The Carr Center 311 East Grand River Avenue Detroit, MI, 48226 United States

An exhibit capturing Michael Sharpe’s escape to Yosemite with his son, Fletcher. The American landscape has been treacherous for Black men, wrought with poplar trees & burning air...Survival has become second nature. Survival is our first art. So we escape. Escape means risk; leaving home to find a higher form of freedom...Father and son embark upon on a photographic mission to reclaim artistic sanctuary and to negotiate their relationship with nature...How do we find reprieve and carve space where we are safe to pursue what we love? How do we capture that freedom and bring it home?
