Education

the Carr Center Arts Academy is our arts education programming arm.  Arts education and training is offered in visual art, music, dance, film and musical theater. Through the Academy, the Carr Center offers both in school classes and multi-week summer intensive programs.

School Programs:

Arts Academy Master Classes, lectures and workshops are conducted by our co-artistic directors, artists in residence and the stellar array of national / international visiting artists presented by the Carr Center and our partners  in concert or in exhibition throughout the year. Programs can often be tailored to fit the needs of the school or selected students and can take many different forms including but not limited to instrumental coaching, vocal coaching, ensemble coaching, mentoring, classroom instruction and school wide presentations.

Summer Intensives:

During the summer months, the Carr Center offers a series of arts intensives for talented young artists who are serious about pursuing their chosen art form. We have offered intensives in visual arts, dance, musical theater, jazz and filmmaking. Our Instructors for the intensives are world class working artists and teachers who are committed to training the next generation.  Our partner for the Dance and Musical Theater intensives is the Debbie Allen Dance Academy. Our partner for the filmmaking intensive is Ghetto Film School out of NY and LA.

DPSCD Arts Teacher Mentorship Program:

During the 2019-2020 school year, the Carr Center is committing itself to providing Music Education Teachers with support in the form of teacher mentoring to assist with developing, enriching and enhancing the Music Education Programs of DPSCD.  Mentoring will be provided by a team of retired / seasoned music educators and administrators.  These volunteers are committed to supporting dynamic, successful music programs for students of all ages throughout Detroit.
